Laura lost 61 pounds!

My Medi-Weightloss® transformation began in April of last year, but before that it began with a photo. Specifically a photo taken in March of 2018. I had gotten dressed up for a date night with my husband, and someone offered to take our picture. Looking back at it now, I’m not sure how I managed to politely thank the anonymous stranger for taking our picture, when inside, upon seeing it, all I wanted to do was erase it and cry. Weight wasn’t always an issue for me. In high school, I was thin, and that mostly held true following me into college and beyond. However, once I got married and was working and relocating regularly with my husband (who was military, so it goes with the territory: CA to MT, to HI, back to TX where we’re both originally from), things started bouncing around on the scale. It was partially diet, a whole lot of lifestyle, and finally, when we ended up in Iowa and were pursuing pregnancy, medication officially pushed me into the obese category. Seeing that listed on my medical chart was, in a word depressing. I figured if I had to be stable health-wise and on a medication that had caused me to gain 30 lbs., in order to have kids, then I could deal with that (thinking, naively, that the weight would come off later)! We were blessed with our first child then had our second. Finally, I was schlepping along that additional 30 lbs., plus the pregnancy weight I had never managed to lose from either birth. But, in April 2018 I was about to turn 40 years old, I knew it was time for change. I was desperate, and tried salads, shakes, and a gym routine that was getting me nowhere. I talked to a friend who had done the Medi-Weightloss® Program as well as the PA from my local branch, who happened to be a fellow soccer mom from my son’s team. I wasn’t sure exactly what I was getting myself into, but ready for change. I signed up for an appointment and on April 26, 2018, weighed in for the first time, at 221.5 lbs. Looking back, I was ready to change, but woefully underprepared for how that first week would go. I started the program, and immediately left the location for the grocery store. I stocked up on protein options to get me through that first week. The first week was rough. Detoxing off carbs and sugar, I had headaches, was tired, and sometimes didn’t think this was going to work at all (as I cleaned out my pantry and purged all the junk)! But, that next week, I weighed in at 216 lbs., and had never been so excited to see vegetables in my life again! I added back in veggies and healthy fats, then fruit and I kept losing steadily over the 16 weeks of the program. I weighed in at the beginning of Sept. at 178.5 lbs., having exceeded my initial goal weight of 180. I set a new goal of 150 lbs, aiming to put myself in the middle of a healthy BMI. And, using the concepts the program taught me, worked on my own to get down to 165.8 lbs, before going on a Thanksgiving Disney Cruise vacation. Unfortunately, I got off track while on the cruise, and over the subsequent Christmas holiday season. I gained back some of the weight I’d lost. Thankfully, with the knowledge I gained from following the Medi-Weightloss® Program, when I was ready to get back to losing weight in January I knew how to go about doing so in a safe and effective manner. I ate myself back into ketosis, and have lost the weight I’d gained. As of my most recent appointment, I’m at 160 lbs., having lost 61.5 lbs. and putting me within 10 lbs. of my goal weight! Over the course of the program, I learned how to not just lose weight, but how to measure my portions, plan out what I eat, keep track of calories, and make sure I’m giving my body what it needs to succeed. Sharing that knowledge with my husband has helped him lose 15 lbs. of his own as well! While that Disney Cruise may have set me back a few pounds on the scale, it also gave me a health/fitness gift of the opposite sort: I decided 6 weeks before sailing, to run the Castaway Cay 5K race on Disney’s private island. While I didn’t have enough time to complete the full 8 week training program I’d committed to, I managed to run most of the race and subsequently challenged myself to complete the full 8 week program and then run another 5K at home. In December, not only did I run in a local 5K, I actually finished 3rd in my age division! (Making it the first sports medal anyone in our family has ever won, beyond a participation trophy, lol!) I’ve continued running a 5K distance 3x/week for the past several months, which I find laughable, because in the past I would’ve sworn to anyone who knew me that, if I was running, they’d better run too, because it meant the zombie apocalypse was at hand! With the weight off that was holding me back from pursuing a more physically active lifestyle, I’m also working on incorporating more weight-bearing exercise sessions. I’m even trying yoga classes at the local gym (although I’m not sure I have the balance - yet - for some of those pretzel poses). Friends who see me now and ask what’s changed, always get the same answer from me: Medi-Weightloss®. And new people who didn’t know me at this point a year ago, often don’t recognize me from old photos. My Facebook photos feed is a testament to my weight loss transformation over the past year. Also, while not prominently shared on the web, I have personal selfies I’ve taken as I’ve learned to love my body at every stage, even in the beginning when the thought of trying to lose the weight (and seeing it on myself in photos) was the hardest. I’m currently excited about this transformation, not what I’ve lost been, but for where I’m going! I can’t wait to finish my time in the acute phase of Medi-Weightloss® and move into the maintenance/wellness portion of the plan. This entire lifestyle change is something I couldn’t be more proud of, and I’m so grateful to Medi-Weightloss® for giving me my life back!

† On average, patients on our individualized restricted calorie program lose 6.4 pounds the first week and 14 pounds the first month. Medical supervision required.
