Spring is the season for transformations — not just for your body, but also for your skin. Find out how spending a few extra minutes in the locker room after working out can lead to healthier, more radiant skin.

  1. Your healthy skin routine starts way before you step off the treadmill. Avoid touching your face when working out, as this allows bacteria to get into your skin.
  2. Be gentle with your skin. Too much exfoliation can dehydrate your skin, which can cause acne. Choose a gentle cleanser to avoid over exfoliating. You can make one yourself by mixing 2 tablespoons finely ground rolled oats, 1 tablespoon plain Greek yogurt, and 1 tablespoon coconut oil. Gently rub into clean skin using a circular motion for 30 to 60 seconds. Rinse with lukewarm water.  
  3.  Rehydrate your body and skin. After washing your face, apply a moisturizer, preferably one that contains less than ten ingredients and is fragrance-free.
  4. Drink plenty of water. Help your body recover after an intense workout by drinking more water.
  5. Load up on SPF.  If you plan on changing up your workout routine by jogging outside or going to yoga in the park, make sure to protect your skin from the sun's rays. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends using a sunscreen that contains SPF 30, is water-resistant, and protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
